VNY Part 161 and Grandfathered Phaseout Public Involvement

LAWA and the Part 161 Consulting Team held the following public meetings related to the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) Part 161 Study and the grandfathered Noisier Aircraft Phaseout Ordinance:

  • July 5, 2005: LAWA staff and consultant's presentation to the VNY Citizens’ Advisory Council, introducing the VNY Part 161 Study. To view the presentation click here.

  • August 20, 2007: Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) agenda item regarding amending the proposed ordinance to phase out noisier aircraft, and authorize the Executive Director to perform the necessary environmental review.   • November 15, 2007: Public scoping meeting for a Focused Environmental Impact Report (EIR) prepared pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the ANCA grandfathered phaseout of noisier aircraft at VNY.   • October 7, 2008: Public workshop on the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) being prepared under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the grandfathered phaseout of noisier aircraft at VNY.   • May 4, 2009: Board of Airport Commissioners agenda item recommending adoption of the “Van Nuys Airport Noisier Aircraft Phaseout Ordinance with Historic, Maintenance, and Stage 3 and 4 Aircraft Exemptions“ (Alternative 2 in the Final EIR).   • February 3, 2010: Trade, Commerce, and Tourism (TCT) Committee of the Los Angeles City Council agenda item approving the VNY Noisier Aircraft Phaseout ordinance and transmital to full City Council for adoption.

  • February 26, 2010: the Los Angeles City Council unanamously approved the “Van Nuys Airport Noisier Aircraft Phaseout Ordinance with Historic, Maintenance, and Stage 3 and 4 Aircraft Exemptions.“ Click to view the City Council action and transmittal to the Mayor.

  • March 9, 2010: Mayor Villaraigosa signed the VNY Noisier Aircraft Phaseout ordinance. The ordinance became effective on April 15, 2010.  A copy of the signed ordinance can be viewed here
